(A) Statement 1 alone is sufficient. Statement 1: If x < y and both are positive, then x/y must be less than 1. SUFFICIENT. Statement 2: x + y = 10 gives us pairs like (1,9), (5,5), (9,1). x/y could be < 1, = 1, or > 1. INSUFFICIENT.
